Paleo Tuesday 8


The eating is going as well as can be expected.  I’ve mentioned it several times on Twitter that I’m constantly in the kitchen, chopping this or that, baking or cooking something in the oven.  I’ve got to start making more meals that have leftovers instead of having to make each meal (dinners especially), but lunches and breakfasts have been going really well.

A sample of a day’s meal plan would look something like this:

Beverages consumed: 1/2 of a coffee around 6 am, then 1-2 more at work between 8 am and 11 am.  The rest of the day is water, water, water.  I drink about 2-4 liters daily.

Breakfast: 2 Egg Muffins and some bacon and/or both sausage.

Mid-morning snack: I don’t usually eat much more in the mornings because I don’t want a full belly going to the gym.  But if I do anything else, it’s about 15 or so almond.  Yes, fifteen.

Lunch: Usually lately it’s been big a salad with Romaine lettuce, spinach, paleo dressing, pecans, chicken and bacon.  Also, a hard-boiled egg.  Either eaten before or after my salad.

Afternoon snack: Usually an apple, sometimes I’ll have some cut up fruit or a grapefruit.

*I’m usually pretty satiated with what I’ve eaten up until this point, but sometimes I get peckish around dinnertime.

Dinner: Dinner is usually one protein, veggies and sometimes we have sweet potato.

[Jeff roughly consumes what I consume, just slightly more but he eats at different times than I do because of his job (his work hours are 6:30 am to 5 pm four days a week).]

Thoughts & Observations: Like I’ve said previously, we aren’t entirely strict.  We do indulge ever so slightly on the weekend, usually a snack and never an entire meal but that will change, I’m sure.  We just don’t go to town.  One thing I’ve noticed, though, is that eating healthy and obtaining good quality nutrients, your body really does crave and need that.  It feels so much better eating clean.  I’ve noticed anytime we eat something we shouldn’t have eaten, we immediately feel like shit afterwards.  At least we’re recognizing that and acknowledging it, that’s how I feel about it.  Being Authentic.  So what does that tell you?  You eat clean and you feel amazing.  You don’t eat all that well and you have cheats or what have you and you feel like shit.  Which option seems like the better one?! Hmmmm.

It’s been a process, let me tell you but a good one.  I’m just always in the kitchen.  And I need more hands.

  • I have been SUPER snacky lately so I’ve realized I’m not eating enough during the day. Tonight I went and stocked up on some more granola bars and packs of peanuts I can take on the go. It’s hard to find prepackaged foods that are healthy and quick.

  • It’s totally hard to find healthy shit to munch on that you don’t have to prepare yourself or carry a cooler around with you.

    Almonds are good too. I’m going to a conference tomorrow and I’m being all Johnny Paleo Snob and taking my own food so I’m not tempted with sugar pastries or muffins.

    Being prepared is key. 🙂

  • Love your honest opinion 🙂 It is true what you mentioned, I also feel like that when we eat out or somethings. It’s like my body knows it’s no good and it makes me feel awful, I’m definitely been more conscious about listening to my body lately. Glad to see paleo is working for you!

  • Thanks love. Its worth the effort. You gotta find balance though. There are always going to be times or situations we indulge but it’s important to get back on track and not get too down on yourself. Making observations and being accountable helps, too.

    Trust me, I love food, that’s why I go to the gym as much as I do.

  • I’m a strong believer in “you are what you eat”. I mean, it’s one thing saying it but it’s a totally different thing feeling and seeing the difference. I ate something I wasn’t supposed to be eating and now this big zit sits on my face…and my stomach hates me. So, I know for a fact that clean eating or just correct eating helps and makes a person stronger. I’m proud of you two for doing this. Love your almond count…I’d do the same. Hahahaha. I love baby carrots as snacks in between too; but only five – not more. Seriously.

    Our bodies have gotten so immune to the shit we eat and finally when we eat wholesome, good quality food, we definitely feel the difference. It’d be a hell of a lot easier grabbing some frozen shit but come to think of it, there’s little taste, it’s laden with chemicals, salt and crap and it does nothing to benefit you or your well-being. I say this as I stuff my face with a big salad, by the way. 🙂

    I’m trying to figure out what’s going on with my acne. I feel mine is hormone related though. I’ve been on the pill for too god damn long and need to figure out some alternatives.

    I NEED to count almonds or I’d eat the whole damn bag. I have no self-control. LOL So I count them out and I don’t scarf the whole bag. So with you, why just 5 carrots? Always been that way? I’m kind of “off” raw carrots at the moment, I overdid it with eating carrots and celery late last year that I’ve had no desire to have them since then.
