10 Things That Made Me Happy This Week 16

Happy Friday and Welcome to the 10 Things That Made Me Happy This Week Link Up!

Each Friday, Krysten from Why Girls Are Weird, Charlotte, from My Pixie Blog and I host a weekly Friday link up where we reflect on the happy and grateful things in our lives, but more specifically from the last week.

Sometimes all it takes is gentle reminders of things that make us grateful or appreciative. We live in a world full of disaster, chaos, poverty, famine, and tragedy – reflecting on the positive, I personally find makes me more aware and appreciative of the little things.

Don’t you agree?

When adding your blog post link, please remember that this is not a link dump; if it is not an appropriate link, it will be deleted.

I have plenty of things I’m happy and/or grateful for and they are:

1.  Hikes in nature in places you’ve never been before.  Fun times and good exercise!

2.  Jeff getting home early from work and bringing the dogs to meet me.  Nothing like seeing two Bichons barreling down the street excited to see you, it’s the best!

3.  Making a nest for Charlie in a sunbeam.  He’s just so cute, he gets all squinty-eyed and happy. 🙂

4.  Naps and not caring about if I just so happen to fall asleep on the couch, because hey, I have no plans.

5.  Planning a girls weekend away to a ski town the first weekend of December.  It has become a tradition, it seems, to head up to Collingwood, Ontario and spend the weekend with a few girls, drinking, going to Scandinave Spa.  It’s a really nice and restful weekend away.  And the spa is to die for.  We usually get massages and then do the Scandinavian baths and hydrotherapy.  Outside.  In the winter.  In Canada.  Yes, it’s freezing ass cold but SO good for cleansing your body and for your circulation  Calming but invigorating.  I’m so looking forward to this!!  Last year our friend Tara and I went hiking up the ski mountain in the fall and just before the bottom, Tara rolls her ankle. Annnnnnd off to the hospital we went after getting her off the mountain.  This year I’m joking that I’m bringing a wagon to haul her around in OR she’s to wear cleats.  Then and only then will I walk around Collingwood with her.  Just kidding.

6.  When Jeff saves the day (okay not really, I’m being a tad dramatic over here) and comes to get a spider that has frozen me in my tracks, thus rendering me unable to move.  I freaking hate spiders, I think it’s because they have too many damn legs man, they move way too fast for my liking thank you very much.

7.  Spontaneously planning a weekend away for us at a cottage up north the first weekend of October with Tara and her husband, Erik.  So excited, which makes me say that we need to get out more often.

8.  My mom is back from Cancun! 🙂 🙂

9.  Wednesday afternoon was the perfect temperature, it was beautiful and comfortable outside.  [not liking that the days are getting shorter…]

10.  Writing out a card for someone in need.  Sometimes we need an ear, a hand or simply a hug.  Let others know that they are not alone.  [I’m visiting a pet client that I haven’t seen in two years — something happened and she has terrible PTSD and can’t/won’t leave the house and she’s really in bad shape.  I met her a couple of times and she’s really the nicest woman.  I just want her to know that whatever it is that she’s going through, that she’s not alone and if she ever needs anything, I’m there for her….  When people hurt, I hurt.]

What about you? What are you happy or grateful for this week?

I am pet sitting on this Labour Day Long Weekend.  It isn’t my regular weekend but because I’m going up north in two weeks, I swapped weekends with another girl.  Should be a busy one but I was smart and booked Tuesday off to rest and recharge.  And to go take the boys to the groomers.

What do have YOU got planned for the weekend?

I really hope you have a fantastic weekend whatever it is you end up getting up to! Xo

Want to hop in on the fun?

  • You are such a good friend and I love that you step in when someone is in need. I hope this pet client of yours gets the help she needs <3 that breaks my heart.

Also I remember when you did that girl's weekend last year–how fun!! Hope you have a great time and sounds like a good idea to bring a wagon lol.

Omg, when dogs sleep in sunbeams. It's the freaking cutest thing. I swear Buster smiles in his sleep when he has sunshine on his fur 🙂

  • “When people hurt I hurt.” That so describes me, even with something as simple as crying at a funeral for someone I didn’t really know because all the people who did know her were crying. (One of the churches I work for did her funeral because they were having trouble finding a place that would do it.) I hope the lady you wrote the card to is able to find the help that she needs. And I’m sure it’ll help a lot to know that you cared enough to send a card. 🙂

Your spa weekend with your friends sounds like so much fun! i want to come! 😉

  • Uhh, last night there was a creepy spider on our ceiling and I told Michael, “THERE’S A SPIDER!” and he says, “Kill it.” I said, “No, you.” And basically he never did. So any time I had to walk under where it was I would SPRINT to make sure that thing wouldn’t repel down and land on my head. And now…no idea where it is. I think we might have to burn our house down.

Hiking here is nowhere near that beautiful! Naps are good. You are always on the go! We are hoping to go camping this weekend in the weather stays nice and the boys feel ok. We all need some fresh air!

  • The weekends away that you’re planning sound like fun!

  • I’m in need of a girls’ trip like the one you described in #5. I love my guy, but you know, a weekend away with the girls always does some good.

  • ERMAGAWDDD!! How’s it Wednesday!? Lol
So I dropped off the card to the woman and left it on her porch early Saturday morning. She never reached out, she may never will… But at least I tried and she knows there’s people out there that care for her.

I hope you had a wonderful weekend and guess what?! We’re already half way there!!!! 🙂 🙂 XOXO

  • I dropped off the card early Saturday morning and never heard from her this weekend. She may, she may never, but at least she knows she’s not alone and that might bring her comfort to take the steps to seeking much needed help.

    Come!! Hehe! Lol

  • I read your comment just after you wrote it and I couldnt. Mattie HOW the FK could you just let it disappear? I did that once while house sitting at moms house and lose track of this spider on the ceiling and I swear I never slept that night. What. The. EFF!! Lol

  • Me too! It’s all that fresh air and vitamin D. 🙂

  • It can’t be THAT terrible finding places to hike there, no?!
Yeahhhh I’m always on the go. Booked yesterday off knowing I’d be tired after the long wknd and Jeff ended up staying home and shitting on my party. Been bickering with him since yesterday so I took today off as well because I needed a mental health day. Fk!!!

  • I’m so looking forward to those weekends away!! 🙂

  • It’s always nice to getaway, recharge and miss your partner you know? Makes you appreciate them more… Funny I say this as I’ve been bickering with J for the last two days. Lol

  • That’s amazing <3 You can't predict someone's reaction and you don't know how they'll feel when they receive something so personal BUT if I had to take a guess, I'd say that she was unbelievably touched that someone that to reach out to her in her time of need. You are a good friend, my sweet 🙂

GOOD LORD. Longest week ever. AMIRIGHT?! XOXO

  • I actually drove by her house several times over the weekend and I saw her on her patio with her cats, so I know she’s at least getting outside, some fresh air and vitamin D, even if she is actually afraid to leave her house. I do wish she reached out but that’s fine she didn’t. I just hope she finds some peace within, because it doesn’t sound like she’s in a good space. It’s just something small that I’d hope someone would do for me one day, should I ever need it, you know?
UGH short weeks are always LONG ass weeks! XOXO
