10 Things That Made Me Happy This Week (& This Year) 14

Happy Friday and Welcome to the 10 Things That Made Me Happy This Week Link Up!

Each Friday, Krysten from Why Girls Are Weird, Charlotte, from My Pixie Blog and I host a weekly Friday link up where we reflect on the happy and grateful things in our lives, but more specifically from the last week.

Sometimes all it takes are gentle reminders of things that make us grateful or appreciative. We live in a world full of disaster, chaos, poverty, famine, and tragedy – reflecting on the positive, I personally find makes me more aware and appreciative of the little things.

Don’t you agree?

**When adding your blog post link, please remember that this is not a link dump; if it is not an appropriate link, it will be deleted.**

We have a *NEW* image for winter – feel free to grab and use it, too!

Today I’m sharing two lists: (1) things I’m happy and/or grateful for in the last week AND (2) things that I’m happy/grateful for in 2016.

10 Things That Made Me Happy This Week:

1. Spending time with my friend Regina’s daughter, Sophia, on the last day of work before Christmas.  It was nice to have a little helper and it was adorable chatting with her.  🙂

2. Celebrating Christmas with Jeff’s family.  We set up Jeff’s mom in the living room on Christmas morning and she was able to open gifts and eat with us, it was really nice.

3. Jeff’s homemade turkey soup he made from scratch.  It was his first homemade soup and boy was it ever good!

4. Picking up the boys from my mom’s house on Tuesday night.  They are always so excited to see my mom when I drop them off and I’m chopped liver, but picking them up, it’s like they give a run-by kiss to my mom and out the door they are with me, eager to get themselves back home (and to see Daddy!), I love it.  It never fails to put a smile on my face.

5. Getting back home, unpacking all our things (how do we honestly accumulate SO MUCH?!) and being back in my own comfy bed thank you very much.

6. Deep breathing exercises and meditation.

7. Yoga.

8. Short work weeks!  #CanIGetaHellYEAH

9. Heavily discounted Boxing Day sales at Lululemon!! You know I jumped all over that.

10. Getting back to salads.  Although I didn’t eat terribly over Christmas, I did eat my share of carbs and boy was I feeling bloated come time to go back to work (and the gym) this week.  Carbs are the devil in disguise!

10 Things That Made Me Happy This YEAR (2016):

1. Sharing it with my best friend.

Christmas 2016

2. Having my Mother-in-law with us for another Christmas (and full year).

3. Having my family’s love and unwavering support (yes, even on the days I’m bat shit crazy).

4. Being able and fortunate to go on beautiful and fun vacations.

Barbados scuba diving

5. Having two beautifully healthy little fur balls that keep us smiling and laughing for years.  Our house is not a home unless there’s the pitter patter of four-legged friends, that’s just how it goes.

The Boys

6. Having a steady income that allows me to live comfortably with a roof over my head, heat, food in my belly and clothing on my back. These are many things that some are never fortunate to have and we, North Americans in particular, take that for granted.

7. Meeting new people and building on our existing friendships.

8. This blog. If it wasn’t for this space where I’ve been so lovingly embraced, I would’ve never met any of you or have been given the opportunities I have been blessed with.  Thank you for your friendship, your support, readership and most of all, thank you for the encouragement.

9. I have my health and *knocks on wood*, it’s been one of my healthiest years. I’ve had no allergic or anaphylactic issues, which thrills me to no end. It certainly helps that I try to lead a healthy and fit lifestyle, with a few indulgences along the way. I also began (another) journey in therapy and started group sessions, which I found very helpful.

10. I’m grateful for all the ways that jeff shows me he appreciates, loves and cares for me. He truly is a good man and someone I can 1,000% depend on. Thank for always being by my side and rooting for me even when I don’t have faith in myself.

The Flynnigans

Another rare picture of us. 🙂 I love it, actually 🙂

So here’s to another year of growth, opportunity and happiness!  I wish each and every one of you a Happy New Year!

What are YOU happy or grateful for this week and year?

Do you have any NYE plans?  We are going to a friend’s house and staying the night there.

Be safe and have a fun!

But really…where are we supposed to put all the stuff we accumulate?! Have a great weekend!

  • This is such a beautiful list for a variety of reasons <3

    1) I'm so incredibly blessed/grateful to have met you
    2) I love that you encourage me to give thanks each Friday for all the little blessings I have in my life
    3) Your ability to focus on the good–even when things are not always peachy–is always very inspirational for me
    4) You have a beautiful relationship with Jeff. And I love how he shows you in the little things how much he truly loves and cares for you.

Also those pics of you guys together = adorable 🙂

I need to get back on the salad train. I seriously miss eating greens, what with filling my body on sugars and carbs these past few weeks. NO MAS! My pants are refusing to fit, lol.

Sending much <3 to you, to Jeff, to your family, to his momma for a year of much continued health and happiness. LOVE YOU, LINDS! XOXO

  • Holy smokes I’m lagging so behind this week. Work has been insane and well, the evenings have just gotten away on me. I hope you had a nice New Years, whatever it was that you did or nothing at all and I wish you all the very best for 2017 and beyond, Ericka. Thank you so much. 🙂

  • Thanks girl! Sorry it’s taken me bloody forever to write you.
I read your post about your Christmas with Michael’s family and you guys scored some cool/useful things.
Did you guys do anything for New Years? If I missed it on social media, I apologize. I’ve been slacking a lot lately! Eeep!
    I hope you’re having a great week, it’s FRIDAY tomorrow!!!! 🙂

  • Hey girl! Apologies for the late response. Don’t you just feel so special and SO loved when you reunite with your pooch? I know we do. 🙂

I hope you had a nice New Years, we did with our two friends and it was lovely.

    Happy almost Friday love!

I’m very blessed to call you my friend, Chrissy. Thank you for always being there, I sincerely appreciate it and all your kindness. <3

  • Holy smokes, it’s already Thursday? I feel like this week has run away on me. I guess that’s good and bad? Regardless, hiiii! Better late than never. 🙂
Likewise, in so grateful to have crossed paths with you and I just know one day we’ll meet and the connection will grow even more.
Girl, stop. I encourage you as much as you do me. I’m a negative person by default it seems and as you know, I’m trying really hard to change that. That’s what I love about this link up, back when I first started seeing krysten do these two years ago, no matter how crappy of a day or week or even month, I’m always able to pull positive from it and doing this weekly really helps my focus. I’m so incredibly touched that I’m inspiring. That’s huge, and means a lot, Charlotte. Although I haven’t been commenting as of late, I find your posts and words very encouraging and uplifting. Thank you for being YOU. 🙂

Ugh don’t talk to me about sugar. We made sweets on Christmas Eve at Jeff’s parents and when we got back home, jeff made one back of these “magic bars” and then another for New Years. I never want to see sugar again, or at least not until next Christmas. My stomach and body HATES sugar. I’m thrilled to be eating salad on the regular again and lean protein and veggies at night. I swear to god our bodies aren’t good digesting sugars and carbs but it’s so easy to get addicted to that sugar. It’s the devil!! BUT having said that, it’s nice to indulge now and again but it’s also nice to be back on track.

Thank you so much darling; wishing you and yours all the very best for this year and beyond!! XOXOXX

  • I totally owe you emails. i’m so sorry–this week has COMPLETELY gotten away from me 🙁 looks like you’re in the same boat. what the hell happens to the time?!

i never would think you are anything but positive so hearing you say that you think you’re a negative person is totally a shock to me! but i think sometimes we all go down a dark path and that’s why i love our friday linkys. something so simple and easy can have a wonderful affect on us emotionally. i dunno if i ever mentioned this to you, but when i first met bryan he talked to me about PMA (Positive Mental Attitude) and i found it really inspiring — look it up if you can, there’s a short clip from Michael Rapaport talking about it that I just <3). Anyhooo… getting very far off track. I hope one day we have the chance to meet, and am always here for you, my sweet friend.

  • No worries! I owe you emails too!

TOTALLY going to look up PMA videos. Thanks for sharing sista. xo

Ps. We’ll meet up one day, that much I know is true. <3

  • Don’t ever worry about taking a long time to reply to me…I’m replying to this 20-day-old reply from you, so I’m awful at this hahaha! We had a small party (family & close family friends) at Michael’s parents’ for NYE which was fun!

  • We rock, girl! Slackers unite! Most weeks I can’t keep up and I get mad anxiety from outstanding emails/messages/comments but I’m a lot better than I used to be.
