Pet Sitting Adventures – February Edition 6

pet sitting

Hello my friends and welcome.  It was a pet sitting weekend this last one.  Busy enough but not insane like others where I feel as though I need to clone myself. So let’s get to it!

So here’s the deal for any new readers here.  Pet sitting is my part-time, fun “job”.  I work one weekend a month, every four weeks (and sometimes more often, if it is needed and I am available) and have been doing so for the almost five years.  It was a job that I stumbled upon I guess at the right time and I feel so blessed to be doing it.  I get to spend time with animals and anyone that knows me well will tell you that my heart is with four-legged creatures.  There’s just something so special that I cannot put into words about how I feel when I’m around animals.  What can I say? I am animal mad in every sense of the word. I physically cannot walk past a dog in the street without stroking it and I’ve been known on many occasion to stop the car and get out and ask to pet your dog.  Yes, I am THAT person.  And, FUNNILY, despite being allergic to cats, I still cannot resist a sweet, fluffy purring love.

Weekend Stats:

  • Number of booked visits: I initially had 26 visits scheduled for the weekend, which is light, but then three cancelled on Friday throughout the day.  In the end, I had one on Friday night, 12 on Saturday and 10 on Sunday.
  • Animals: The usual, dogs and cats.  Many were regular faces but I also had many new faces, too. This weekend I also had a Yellow Naped Amazon bird to care for and he was pretty funny.  Singing up a storm he was.
  • Distance driven in weekend (Friday night at 6 pm to Sunday night at 10 pm): 234 kms
  • Weather:  Your typical Canadian winter weather (Ontario).  It was – 10 Celsius with a wind chill that brought it to -15 on Saturday morning and then on Sunday it was a bit unseasonal and hovering around the freezing point.  It was still COLD!

Then I went and saw my good pal, Jagger, a rescued retired race dog down from the U.S.  His owner has such a love for the breed but at the moment she only has Jagger.  A couple of years ago she also had two females.
Siamese Cat
This Siamese beauty was SUCH a vocal boy, which you’ll see in my video below.  I just love friendly Siamese.

How was your weekend?  Yep, I know it’s Thursday.  I’m so not on the ball this week.

Well, that’s it for now, until I post again after the first weekend of March.

I may share some more next week because I’m doing 1 visit on Saturday evening after I get back from the dog behavior course I’m taking and then on Sunday, I have another 9 visits that I’m helping out with. I’m ecstatic because I get to go out to the farm on Sunday and see the Dane that I’ve affectionately dubbed as my surrogate.  haha

  • If I was a pet parent to one of your visits, I would absolutely love seeing your video of my baby while I was away. I think that’s such a lovely personal touch.

  • We always enjoy your Weekend in Petsitting Adventures posts! Hudson is totally cute, and that Carter is a serious talker. Love that Siamese me-rrrow! 🙂 And your selfie with Duke is great.

Clem and Mushu look especially comfortable, but I bet they were happy that you came to visit.

Sorry it’s been gray and dreary, but I know your animal pals (and your own sweet boys) keep your heart warm and happy.

    Have a wonderful Sunday!

  • 🙂 I’m sure that my notes and pictures and videos make many happy to know their pets are loved as much as they at when they’re not there. I’ve always had a camera in my hand since I was little, I can’t stop. 🙂 xox

  • I always love the comments from my pet sitting posts. You can always tell the animal lovers and you’re right up there. Hudson was such a treat. He’s not a client of ours but the client’s son’s dog and so we get to care for other pets while we’re visiting other homes when they’ve got family pets staying with them, too. Which is fun, meeting new faces and happy, wiggly bums. Duke is QUITE the character. He lives with a cane corso that goes to work with his Dad and we go in and walk Duke. He’s such a happy, bouncy, boisterous boy. 🙂

I visited with Clem and Mushu last weekend as well (you’ll see in last night’s blog post: http://theflynnigans.com/2017/02/14/weekend-recap-18) and I also visited with their feisty brother that lives downstairs, apart from the nicer kitties. Dexter is fine with people but has a serious hate for other felines.
The last week has been somewhat brighter and sunnier. I can definitely tell spring is not far away as the days are getting longer and it is SO NICE. Nothing better than a sunny day on a cold, wintery day.
    I hope you’re doing well… 🙂
P.S. I think if I’ve surmised correctly, you and your wife share this account, right? Who am I actually talking to? 🙂

  • Things are good here. I hear you about the days getting longer — I love that it’s still light when I walk from my office to the train at the end of the day. We’ve had wildly fluctuating temperatures this winter, and this weekend, they’re supposed to go up to about 15C / 60F. We’ll definitely try to get outside to enjoy. 🙂

Tracey started the blog years ago, but her work got crazy, so I took over and have been the main blogger and commenter for years now. So it’s me (Kevin) you’re talking with. 🙂

Have a great night (and weekend … woohoo)!

  • Hi Kevin,
I definitely feel much better having a sense who I’m talking, be it you or Tracey. 🙂 thanks for explaining. How was your weather this weekend? We had sunshine all weekend long, and mildness temperatures, which means most of the snow all melted and all of the dogs are a happy MESS from the side yard at my mother’s. Boy are they happy to get down and dirty. Lol!

I hope you had a great weekend my friend. Cheers to a good (and short!) work week. I’m all over that goodness. 😉

Have a good evening my friend,
    Linds
