Sometimes all it takes are gentle reminders of things that make us grateful or appreciative. We live in a world full of disaster, chaos, poverty, famine, and tragedy – reflecting on the positive, I personally find makes me more aware and appreciative of the little things.

These posts make me super happy to reflect on the good and grateful things of the week.  I can be having the worst of weeks but I always, always manage to find things to be happy or grateful for.

10 Things That Made Me Happy This Week:

1. Getting back into a routine of “normalcy” – work, at home, the dogs, the GYM (I’ve only been 3 times in the last 14 days but remarkably, I still have abs, which is unbelievable lol).

2. Having my mom dote on me last Friday/Saturday. It was so kind and thoughtful of her.

3. Reading and making time to write in my gratitude journal. When my MIL was in the hospital and in hospice at the end, all writing dropped off.

4. I also love surprising jeff with the boys. It never, ever gets old.

5. Being given the opportunity to take a leadership professional development course through my work.

6. Going with #5, having a three-day work week never hurt anyone.

7. Big ass salads!

8. I’m grateful to be back home and sleeping soundly in my own bed.

9. Getting our taxes filed!

10. Catching up with coworkers and hugs!

What are YOU happy or grateful for this week?

I haven’t got much on my plate for this weekend other than rest, cleaning and hanging out with the dogs.  Poor Jeff has a nasty cold but is going up north this morning to spend the weekend with his Dad, that and there’s a pistol shooting match this weekend at the range that Jeff is running.  His Dad won’t be helping because he just doesn’t feel like he can hold up with a whole bunch of people giving him their condolences.  He’s just not ready and that’s understandable.

    How awesome! I love your 10 things! I am pretty happy it was a great week and it should be a nice weekend!

  • OMG taxes…don’t remind me. That is the scariest time of year. GULP. We have to do two sets even though I haven’t worked in the US in 4 years, I still have to do both. Bugars! Big ass salads with a hint of lettuce are my kind of salad! I’m envious of abs. I haven’t seen a muscle in any of my mid parts since 2001. So go on with your bad self!
    My son has a coping box and in it he has started to keep a journal because “that’s what my mom does”. It’s funny how much they pay attention. Night time is the worst time for him so he’ll write the things that were his favourite parts of the day. I find them to be the most hilarious bits – like “My socks were Maple Leafs!” – but he goes to bed feeling a bit more at peace. I’m proud of you for writing. Even if it’s painful or you might not feel like you have time, just jotting a couple things. Reflecting. Sounds corny but it’s good for that soul box.

  • Hey girl!
    It was weird coming back to “normal” but it was necessary. We spent what seemed like weeks (but was only 9 days) up north and sleeping on couches, living the hospital life and not taking care of ourselves, that’s why coming back to normal was needed and welcomed, too. Heck, we didn’t know even know what day of the week it was.

    How was your weekend and week been?

    Yes, such a relief getting taxes done.

    I’m so obsessed with the gym… actually not obsessed but I just have this routine that when I deviate from it, I get cranky. It keeps me calm, motivated, I get rid of bad energy and stress… it’s as much for mental reasons as it is physical. Plus, having very obese grandparents, I vowed that I would never be like them…

    You’ve gotta keep up your licensing and shit and that’s why you have to do two sets? I think you mentioned before that you worked down in the US… that’s crazy you’ve got to do it twice though. Hopefully your husband takes care of that mess for you; mine does and I’m so grateful because that shit is beyond me.
    Girl you look great, muscles or not. I’m just afraid of getting fat because I love food and I vowed I would never ever get to be like the size my grandparents were. That’s what motivates me to get my ass to the gym, that and mentally, I always feel 1000% better. Always.

    I think it’s really great your son has a journal and helps with his thoughts. You’re setting a positive example love. Sure he sees you at your worst, but that’s making him a strong young man because he can see that his momma can do anything, and therefore so can he, dammit. I’m glad he’s able to calm himself a bit before bed. He probably goes to bed feeling a bit more content with himself. 🙂
