What’s up, Weekend? 28

What's up weekend?

Happy Friday and Welcome to the *NEW* ‘What’s up, Weekend’ Friday Link Up!

Two weeks ago was the official kick off of the newly revamped link-up that Charlotte, from My Pixie Blog, Christina from The Brave Wanderer. and I are hosting, called ‘What’s up, Weekend?’

For the last two years, Fridays have always been (and always will be) a place where I reflect on the happy and grateful things in our lives, but more specifically from the last week. To expand upon that, this link-up is now open to any post that relates to happy things, happy lists, gratitude lists, faves of the week or it could also be your practice to greet the weekend with a bang/open arms. Whatever your choice is, have fun with it. But please remember that any links that are just simply “dumped” or if your blog post does not mesh with our theme, it will be deleted.

For me personally, sometimes all it takes are gentle reminders of things that have made me grateful or appreciative during the week. We live in a world full of conflict, disaster, chaos, poverty, famine, and tragedy – you name it. Reflecting on the positive, I personally find, makes me more mindful, gracious and appreciative of all things, big and small.

You can be having the worst of weeks but I always, always manage to find things to be happy or grateful for. So, I hope writing out your lists makes you happy, too!

What's up, Wednesday?

**When adding your blog post link, please remember that this is not a link dump; if it is not an appropriate link, it will be deleted.**

Things That Made Me Happy This Week:

1. Shooting a fun match last Saturday with some good people and I actually didn’t do all that bad (okay the low-light stage was just awful, but hey, perspective people).

Us

2.  Spending a nice morning out with my mom and Jeff last Sunday at the Green Living Show.

Mom, Jeff and I Toronto

3. A short week (well two, today and next Monday, both). Woohoo!

4. We booked our 7-day paddling trip route with Ontario Parks. Both Jeff and I are excited for this trip.

5.  I got an amazing performance review at work for the last fiscal year and as a result, a little raise in my salary and a pretty sweet bonus. #hardworkpaysoff

6. Catching up with my friend after her trip to the Dominican. Work was quiet and boring without her.

7.  I bought a new/another photo album that has been needed for a long time. I’ve been trying to get photos printed more often because I take too many pictures and they just get posted to social media and that’s as far as it goes.

8.  Morning snuggles with the dogs and being silly with them before sunrise. I just adore my boys (as if that wasn’t apparent!).

9.  Despite the devastating news we got this week that my mom’s dog, Quincey has cancer, I’m grateful to be a shutterbug and have many, many pictures of him from over the years. 🙁 We are so grateful to have him in our lives and every day is a gift.

10.  Sunshine and vitamin D. We didn’t get any snow this week, you guys! 🙂 #spring

11.  Wednesday evening.  Jeff made dinner, unloaded the dishwasher and I didn’t have to lift a finger.  It was quite nice and a change from the norm.  Plus, he makes a killer steak.  🙂

12. I just wanted to extend my gratitude for all the kind words and support many of you have shown me on my personal Facebook during this crappy time (#9).

What are YOU happy or grateful for this week?

Early this morning, we’re taking off for Jeff’s Dad’s up north.  We’re shooting this weekend, in addition to having Easter dinner with his Dad.  He’s kind of excited about hosting dinner as this will be his first big dinner he’s doing on his own since the passing of Monique, my mother-in-law, at the beginning of March.  We are then going to come back home Sunday night and I (wisely) booked off Monday so that we could have a nice dinner with my mom and step-dad, too.  The dogs will be staying with my momma. 🙂

What about YOU? What do you have planned for this weekend?

Have a fabulous weekend my friends, make it a good one!

  • I’m so sorry to hear about the pup, but I’m glad you’ll have lots of pictures and good memories! And hooray for no snow, wish I could say the same, we got snow on Monday, but it melted quickly! I hope you have a wonderful Easter weekend!!

  • First of all, you are beautiful and a bad ass.
I am so sorry to hear about Quincy. That breaks my heart to pieces. I truly think it’s unfair that animals should have to suffer human illnesses like cancer. ugh….
I too need to get my ass cracking and get some photos printed. Mine are all scattered amongst social media and two computers that want to die at any given second. You’re on the ball woman!
And no snow! YESSSS!! Get rid of that stuff!! It’s Spring mother nature! Get on it!
I hope that you have a lovely weekend girl xoxox

  • I’m so sorry to hear about Quincy 🙁 That totally breaks my heart–I think especially hearing that kind of devastating news about a pup who was with us for so many life moments… it hurts something fierce 🙁 I think about my dog Linus who I had for 10 years when I lived with my parents… it’s just heartbreaking and I’m sending much love your way <3

I love that you print your photos. I used to be much more diligent about this, but I'd love to get back to it.

I hope you have a nice weekend, my sweet, and that you enjoy some time this weekend with Jeff's poppa. I'm sure he'll love the company. And thank god for a week with no snow! XOXO all my love, sweetie!

  • Great job on the performance review!!!! I love it when the guys cook dinner!! Score!! Mine will never do the cleanup though. Lucky you!! lol I’m very sorry to hear about your mom’s dog, that is very sad. Hugs!

  • kim airhart

Hello Sunshine! We’ve missed you. Yes the vitamin D helps the moods. Congrats on yours raise! Recognition for a job well done is so important in the workplace.
I SO need to start printing pictures. What service do you use or do you print your own?
Oh sweet little Quincy.. Makes me so sad. I am sending you love and prayers through this sad time.

  • It sounds like you have a great weekend planned. I was so sad to read about your Mom’s dog. Sending hugs and love. Congrats on your work review! You deserve it! Have a wonderful Easter and enjoy your days off!

  • shootingstarsmag

  • Jessica Bradshaw

Sounds like you had a pretty good week. I can’t wait for Easter. We are getting brunch with the in-laws. I can’t wait! It’s my favorite meal!

  • Oh, Lins. I totally missed the news about Quincey. 🙁 I’m so sorry.
I know you’ve worked your tush off this year, so I’m thrilled that your performance review reflected that!

  • Lindsay, you know I always love gratitude posts. I’m sorry about everything that is going on but I’m also so happy in regards to all of the positive things. Yea for a raise – and this southern girl will always say yea for no snow. We have a busy weekend planned with friends and family – so many things to be grateful for. Happy Easter. PS: I didn’t realize my favorites posts would fit so I will certainly begin to link it up.

  • Thanks so much for your kind words, my dear. It is very much appreciated during this difficult time. Isnt it funny that there’s always good/positive things in life even in the midst of trials and tribulations, but that’s life. It just saddens me every time we have a dog that leaves us and I just wish they lived forever. Animals are just so special.
Thank you thank you, I’m thrilled how well my performance was awarded and very blessed. I worked hard last year and there were SO many changes and bumps at my workplace last year.

I hope you have a lovely and plentiful weekend with family and friends, love. Yes, please do link up your Friday posts. Absolutely. 🙂 Take care my friend.

  • Oh, Lindsay, I’m so sorry to hear about Quincey’s diagnosis. That stinks, but I love your attitude that every day you all have with him is a blessing.

Funny about Jeff cooking you dinner and emptying the dishwasher, to boot. I usually do most of the cooking in our house, which Tracey loves. I’m fortunate to have a mum who taught me to cook when I was a child (she’s a GREAT cook herself). Tracey and I kind of split the clean up, which always makes it go quicker.

Congrats on the kick-ass performance review! It’s wonderful that you’re being recognized for your good work. 🙂

Hope you had a great weekend — enjoy your day off tomorrow!

  • Penny @ pennyspassion.blogspot

Yay for the sunshine! I’m so excited that the days are getting longer and warmer weather is being more consistent. Enjoy your Monday off work!

  • Thinking about you (and owe you like a million emails). Sending much love your way, my sweet friend <3 HUGS!!

  • Oh my goodness, I feel terrible I’m writing back almost a week later. I hope your week has been great for you Beth and that you had a lovely Easter long weekend! 🙂

  • Stop, girl, you’re making me blush. 😉
Ugh it sucks so hard that Quincey is sick. He’s the last dog I lived with before moving out of my mom’s house and he’s just like one of my own.
Girl sign up for Shutterfly. They ALWAYS have 101 free pictures, you just pay for shipping. In fact, I think I did that on Monday and ordered 100 for 12 bucks shipping. Or Costco is cheap to print pictures, too. Get on it girl, you know how many photo we all take on a daily basis and just how many of them never get looked at or showcased on your wall every again? That’s one thing I miss about film cameras. I had no choice but to develop film if I wanted to see what photos I took. As a result, I had boxes and boxes and boxes of photos, but oh well, right? There are worse things that heap tons of pics.
I want sunshine!! It’s been SO damn grey this week, but hurray!! I think the snow is gone for good? *knocks on wood* 🙂
I hope you’re doing well babes. xoxox

  • Thanks for your sweet, kind words hun. They mean a lot and I sincerely appreciate it. It’s so hard to see him sad and having bad days; that’s not our Quincey, you know? But, I guess the positive is that he’s been with us for 13 glorious years and they have been magnificent ones. It’s just shitty because you’re never, ever ready to say goodbye. And death is so god damn permanent… there one minute and gone the next. I just hope one day that when I die, I’m greeted by all those that have left before me. Wouldn’t that be something truly wonderful?
Shutterfly babe! They offer free promos all the time and I always take advantage.
    I hope you’re having a good week, busy I’m sure, but I hope it’s been good. 😉
    xoxox

  • Holy smokes, where does time and the days go?! I wish I had more hours in the day to write..
I use Shutterfly to print photos and occasionally, I’ll use Costco for convenience. Shutterfly is pretty good though, they have a lot of free promos and I’m always taking advantage of the free prints.

Thanks so much for your kind words. For lack of a better work, Quincey’s diagnosis sucks. 🙁 But we’re just savoring every day and moment with him. It’s a gift. <3

  • I hope you had a nice Easter and you’re having a relatively easygoing week. Love the boys’ haircuts. 🙂

Thank you for your sweet kind words, they meant a lot hun. Xo

  • Thanks lady. I hope you had a lovely Easter long weekend and you’re having a great week.;)

  • How was your Easter long weekend, Jessica? Mine was good and I was grateful to have taken Monday off, too, so we could squeeze dinner in with my mom. 🙂

  • It’s okay Erin, it happens. It just sucks because none of us are ready for this. But having said that, he won’t let him suffer. 🙁

Thank you thank you, love. It was well deserved and earned. 🙂

  • Me too! I hope you’re having a great week Penny!

  • Thanks Kevin… it’s the worst news and such a shock because it wasn’t expected, and his blood panels came back relatively normal…. but the ultrasound doesn’t lie. He’s been okay in the last week, but his appetite is decreasing. I’m heading over to my mom’s tonight to see him (and take her some cheese (from Costco), lol).

That’s such a great gift your mum passed along to you. I get sick and tired of cooking on the daily. That’s one thing I treasure about vacations is not having to cook (or much) for myself.

Thank you thank you! The bonus and raise were so well deserved and appreciated!! 🙂

Did you have a nice Easter? You don’t have kids, do you two?

  • No worries love, just getting to all these comments now. Sheesh!! xo

  • Jeff doesn’t clean up when he cooks, or I should, he rarely does. He leaves that fun stuff for me. LOL!
Thank you for the kind words hun, I appreciate them. xo

  • Easter was good! We spent the day with Tracey’s family at her sister and brother-in-law’s house. Big family, lots of people, and a super friendly dog named Emma. Fun times. We don’t have any kids ourselves, unless you count (our furkids) Zoe and Gracie. 🙂

  • Sounds really nice. 🙂 Your furkids count, definitely. If people ask us, we say two, with four legs. 😉
