What’s up, Weekend? 29

Happy Friday and Welcome to the ‘What’s up, Weekend’ Friday Link Up!

Welcome to the revamped link-up that Charlotte, from My Pixie Blog, Christina from The Brave Wanderer and I host call, ‘What’s up, Weekend?’

For the last two years, Fridays have always been (and always will be) a place where I reflect on the happy and grateful things in our lives, but more specifically from the last week. To expand upon that, this link-up is now open to any post that relates to happy things, happy lists, gratitude lists, faves of the week or it could also be your practice to greet the weekend with a bang/open arms. Whatever your choice is, have fun with it. But please remember that any links that are just simply “dumped” or if your blog post does not mesh with our theme, it will be deleted.

For me personally, sometimes all it takes are gentle reminders of things that have made me grateful or appreciative during the week. We live in a world full of conflict, disaster, chaos, poverty, famine, and tragedy – you name it. Reflecting on the positive, I personally find, makes me more mindful, gracious and appreciative of all things, big and small.

You can be having the worst of weeks but I always, always manage to find things to be happy or grateful for. So, I hope writing out your lists makes you happy, too!

What's up, Wednesday?

**When adding your blog post link, please remember that this is not a link dump; if it is not an appropriate link, it will be deleted.**

Grateful and Happy things of the Week:

1.  Going to the farmers market last weekend, seeing some old faces, petting some adorable dogs and then grabbing my friend a bouquet of flowers for her bridal shower the following day.

Summertime Flowers
2.  Sunny days coupled with an afternoon nap. #bliss

3. Celebrating the upcoming wedding of a friend’s fiancΓ© by attending her bridal shower last Sunday.  I was grateful for the opportunity to join in on the celebrations.

4. It’s summer!!  Last weekend, we hit temperatures of 35 degrees Celsius! Wahoo! πŸ™‚

5. Sitting out on our balcony in the evenings after work.

6. Air Conditioning.  It makes sleeping so much more comfortable.  And the dogs.  The dogs don’t look like they’re about to melt with the air conditioning turned on.

7. Brushing and doting on my two sweet little fluff balls.

8. Making weekend plans with friends.

9. A break in meetings at work for the next six weeks.

10. Emails to friends.

11. Play fighting with Jeff. And then laughing our faces off.

12. Quiet evenings to myself when Jeff has passed out early on the couch. πŸ™‚

What are YOU happy or grateful for this week?

We are getting all of your camping gear sorted and packed this weekend, along with visiting our friends, Tara and Erik on Saturday evening.

Those flowers are beautiful! This weekend we are taking the boys to watch a movie but other than grocery shopping should be home hanging out with the dogs. The guy Im dog sitting is having some allergy/ear issues so I have had my hands full all week. UGH! Happy Friday Babe!

  • I love your list of happy πŸ™‚ Sounds like it’s been a good one! And that farmer’s market… nothing like ’em, eh? I always think about how nice it would be to get flowers, but then it seems like an indulgence which is so silly because they make me happy and they add some beautiful color to a room, right? Thank you for giving me the inspiration, I’ll have to get some next time I’m there!

You know, it’s funny… I didn’t grow up with central, but we have it now and it’s definitely a HUGE perk. I’m not sure I could go without again. I mean, I could, but it would do terrible things to my hair, LOLOL!!

Hope you have a great weekend, my sweet!

  • Penny @ pennyspassion.blogspot

Happy weekend! Going to the farmer’s market is the best! We always come home with more stuff than we need.

  • San

  • shootingstarsmag

Oh gosh, I’m so with you on the AC. I don’t know what I’d do without it. That and the pool!

And afternoon naps are the best!

  • I love the flowers you picked out at the farmer’s market, Lindsay. They’re so beautiful! Great list of thankful things from your week. It was a long, tough one for me, so I was most grateful for Friday when it got here. We had a nice weekend, though … volunteering at the shelter yesterday, and a day trip upstate today to visit the aquarium and walk around the shops in the nearby historic village. πŸ™‚

  • Sounds like a wonderful week. Those flowers are stunning and I’m so envious of your warm weather (we are in the middle of winter). That bridal shower cake looks so pretty πŸ™‚

  • Hey Alexandra! I hope your weekend was good and your week has been good to you! πŸ™‚
Those flowers were pretty, eh? I was trying to find an excuse to keep them for myself but decided giving them to my friend was a better, more wise decision. Flowers make people happy so why not spread the love? πŸ™‚

  • Hey sweet love, how are you doing this week? Asides from feeling in a blogging funk? Get back on that train, Momma. <3 The flowers were gorgeous eh? I was trying to find reasons to keep them for myself and not give them to my friend. hahah!
Go for a walk, read a book or just sit outside and close your eyes and soak up some of that good stuff called vitamin D. πŸ™‚
Have a great week love! xo

  • Kim Airhart

I am not sure what is wrong with me. This funk has lasted longer than I think it should. Usually I live a positive life and these funks dissipate just as fast as they came on. I think I need some ME time.. xxoo

  • I used to always be the one sleeping but the roles have reversed and it’s now Jeff. I don’t always mind but sometimes I rage because I don’t get much help from him and seeing him so peaceful on the couch, yeah I want to strangle him. Ooops, did I say that out loud? lolol!
    I hope you’re having a great week hun! πŸ™‚

  • Oh no, dog allergies are brutal. πŸ™ Is he scratching like a beast? In a cone? My mom’s boy that passed away in April had awful, awful allergies and he would scratch til he bled or he’d rub himself up along the house while he was out in the side yard and then come in looking like a bloody mess. You feel bad for them because their skin must crawl from being so uncomfortable. Good luck. Is this a neighbours dog?
I hope you’re keeping cool love! Um, who are you and where is Kim? You’re working out girl and I’m so impressed!! πŸ™‚

  • It’s so relaxing. I’ve waited so long for these nice temperatures. πŸ™‚ I hope you’re doing well hun. xo

  • Same here, but it’s always so much goodness, how can you go wrong. I hope you’re having a lovely week, Penny. πŸ™‚

  • Isn’t it kinda cool/awesome that no matter what kind of week it is and has been, there’s always things you can take away, or things that you’re happy or grateful for. I’m always amazed when I put my list together that it sounds like such a good week when it didn’t feel like it was THAT awesome, you know what I mean?
I meant to make it to the farmers market last Saturday morning but the day got away on me and they’re only open until 1 pm. Oh well, the good thing about skipping out this early in the summer is that most of the local crops here aren’t done growing, so the longer you wait into the summer, the more abundant you’ll find it. My mom cut me some peonies from her garden and the smell is just AMAZING and so is the pop of color. Get yo’self some flowers, girl. πŸ™‚
A/C is definitely a nice perk. We are definitely blessed, aren’t we? Especially for the dogs, the heat is hard on them and it’s nice to be able to keep them comfortable. πŸ™‚
I hope today is a better one for you my dear. xoxo

  • Ooooh you have a pool?! I’m jealous. I’ve always wanted a pool… but perhaps without the maintenance. The crappy thing is, if we got one here, our summers are so dang short so it’s a huge expense just to be able to use it for maybe 4 months a year. But it certainly sounds nice. Enjoy momma. πŸ™‚

  • Oh those flowers, those were premium flower shop flowers that cost almost $60 bucks. Definitely not from the farmers market but just around the corner. I had walked to the market and just did some walking and then on my way home, I stopped in to get some flowers for my friend’s bridal shower that was being held the following day. I figured why not, every woman loves flowers. (Or most, I should say.)
Sounds like you had a good weekend, Kevin. Tell me about the aquarium – which one and do they have any huge species, like whale shark? They’re my dream to swim with, although definitely NOT in a tank and in the wild. They are MASSIVE and just so beautiful. πŸ™‚ We have a Ripley’s aquarium here, which is pretty neat, but I’ve only been once. I’d love to go to the Chicago or Atlanta Aquarium someday, I’ve seen pictures and it looks so cool/fun. πŸ™‚

  • But then I’ll be jealous of you when you’ve got your summer and I’ve got my snowy winter. πŸ˜›
The bridal shower cake was SO good and nice and light, too.
I hope you’re having a great week hun. xox

  • It’s such a small thing that we almost always never think of, but man, think how much nicer it makes our days (and nights for sleeping)? And for our pets. AC is definitely a nice thing for our animals in the summertime.
    Thanks babes πŸ™‚
I hope you’re doing well and having a great week. I can’t wait to hear about your new pup!!!!

  • Nothing’s wrong with you hun; it’s the ebb and flow of life. Sometimes it’s great and sometimes it’s not so great, but we overcome it, don’t we?
If you can, take a couple of hours to yourself, do something for YOU, go to your happy place or do something that brings you JOY. Keep your chin up, babes!! xoxo

  • Kim Munoz

It was awful! I woke up to blood everywhere! And worse, he shook his head so much he got a bleed in his ear flap and it swole up like a pillow. So he had a cone and a shirt to hold his ears open to keep from shaking. I can see a lot and not have a weak stomach but the smell of dog blood had my skin crawling! I would old a cool wet cloth on his face and he would just lean into me and almost purr like a cat. Long nights and early mornings but today I slept in!

  • Oh my god, that sounds awful. The poor guy’s skin nustbe just been crawling. How is the ear healing up? Are the allergies calming down a bit?
Poor thing in a cone in that heat, too. I bet he’s just loving the air conditioning keeping him cool. πŸ™

  • YES! I always think that when I get to Friday and I make my list. It’s like, “wow, this week was a lot better than it was in my head!” i think that’s why I love this practice so much–it’s nice to have that perspective πŸ™‚

You know, I noticed that when I went to the Farmer’s Market opening weekend… most of the veggies were pretty barren, but hopefully they’ll be a bit more abundant as the weeks go on. I love supporting local farmers and trying new vendors!

  • Well, that certainly was nice of you to buy that lovely bouquet for your friend. I bet she really appreciated them!

The aquarium we visited was the Mystic Aquarium in Mystic, Connecticut. They do a lot of wonderful marine animal rehabilitation work, and their education programs are topnotch. The biggest species they have are beluga whales. They’re all white, and always look like they are smiling. Mystic Aquarium also has penguins, seals, sea lions, jellies, rays, sharks, sea horses, and lots of other creatures big and small.

OMG, those whale sharks are ginormous! It would be so amazing to encounter one in the wild. I’ve heard good things about the Ripley’s aquarium in Toronto. Is that the one you visited? We’ve been to the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago (It’s awesome), but never to the one in Atlanta (we’d love to, someday). We have also been to the Monterey Bay Aquarium and the Aquarium of the Pacific, both in California, and the New England Aquarium in Boston, Massachusetts. Ha. All that makes it sound like I’m some sort of aquarium addict … I never realized I’ve been to so many. πŸ™‚

  • I love going to Farmer’s Markets on the weekend. And yes to AC! So necessary in the heat!
