So we are now on day 3 post-surgery for Charlie. He had his much-anticipated surgery on Tuesday morning with his orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Isakow. Now knowing his schedule, we are very lucky and blessed to have had him make the time to see Charlie and perform his operation. His surgeon and his wife sold the business a couple of years ago and now, as a result, he doesn’t practice much and only comes in once a month. We are super grateful for him and the work he did on Charlie.
The best though: my mom dropped Charlie off on Tuesday morning for his surgery while I went to work and literally, every.single.person that got close enough to him, he gave kisses. He was just so happy to be there and walked in wagging his tail even. That, that right there is how you know you’ve found a special and wonderful place.
So, do you wanna see Charlie?
This time around, I feel like he’s not as drugged as he was two years ago and he’s much more calm. Maybe it has something to do with him already having gone through this crap before, I don’t know, but I definitely sense a relief that it’s done. He was getting tired, waiting two weeks for surgery.
They ended up using two 40lb fishing line to reinforce the cranial cruciate ligament and there was no planing of the meniscus like we thought there might be. There a lot of arthritis, but that’s nothing we didn’t already know. Shit happens, right, and unfortunately we all get old and we are all going to have it someday.
Last night, he came home around 5, at my mother’s (bless her) and we went over for about 8 for a couple of hours. I think he was just as excited to see us as we were him.
We took him outside for a pee and he just wanted to sit in the grass, and so we did. After, I carried him inside and I iced his leg as he fell asleep/was in a medicated stupor on my lap. It was everything I needed last night.
Again, thank you for all your well wishes, thoughts and prayers.
It’s only uphill from here…. 🙂
Stay tuned for more updates (obviously).
