Charlie Update 13

Charlie post-surgery

So we are now on day 3 post-surgery for Charlie. He had his much-anticipated surgery on Tuesday morning with his orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Isakow. Now knowing his schedule, we are very lucky and blessed to have had him make the time to see Charlie and perform his operation.  His surgeon and his wife sold the business a couple of years ago and now, as a result, he doesn’t practice much and only comes in once a month.  We are super grateful for him and the work he did on Charlie.

The best though: my mom dropped Charlie off on Tuesday morning for his surgery while I went to work and literally, every.single.person that got close enough to him, he gave kisses. He was just so happy to be there and walked in wagging his tail even. That, that right there is how you know you’ve found a special and wonderful place.

So, do you wanna see Charlie?

Charlie post surgery day twoPretty alert for only having had surgery the day before.

This time around, I feel like he’s not as drugged as he was two years ago and he’s much more calm.  Maybe it has something to do with him already having gone through this crap before, I don’t know, but I definitely sense a relief that it’s done. He was getting tired, waiting two weeks for surgery.

They ended up using two 40lb fishing line to reinforce the cranial cruciate ligament and there was no planing of the meniscus like we thought there might be. There a lot of arthritis, but that’s nothing we didn’t already know.  Shit happens, right, and unfortunately we all get old and we are all going to have it someday.

Charlie post surgery day two

Last night, he came home around 5, at my mother’s (bless her) and we went over for about 8 for a couple of hours.  I think he was just as excited to see us as we were him.

We took him outside for a pee and he just wanted to sit in the grass, and so we did. After, I carried him inside and I iced his leg as he fell asleep/was in a medicated stupor on my lap. It was everything I needed last night.

Charlie post surgery day two

Again, thank you for all your well wishes, thoughts and prayers.

It’s only uphill from here…. 🙂

Stay tuned for more updates (obviously).

Hope he’ll be back to normal in no time! Cutie!

Best of wishes to you and your sweet doggy. Caring for our companions, especially when they get sick or old, tests us. It also reveals who we are.

I see you live in Ontario. I’m going up to Toronto tomorrow (actually, Mississauga) for a weekend of fun with a fashion-blogger friend who lives there (Suzanne). Should I bring a heavy coat? 🙂

  • Thanks so much, eh? I appreciate it immensely. 🙂 What helps is that we’ve been through this two years ago with his other leg, so it’s all familiar territory. Now he’s on the mend, and we’re grateful with each day that passes. He’s already doing so well and he’s Day 3.

Hahaha! Funny man. No, it’ll be 27 Celsius tomorrow but chance of thunderstorm. It’s not winter here anymore my friend. Lol! Enjoy your weekend, so lovely you’re coming up so near to me. 🙂

  • Thanks so much love. Xo

  • Oh Charlie, I’m glad it’s over and you came out so great on the other side. I’ll be thinking of you during your recovery!

  • I’m so glad the worst is behind him <3 wishing him all the best for a speedy recovery and how wonderful he was able to see this dr who only has limited appointments; by the looks of it, they took wonderful care of him. Sending you all so much love!!

  • Hooray! We’re so glad the surgery on Charlie’s leg went so well. Please keep us updated about how he’s recovering (though we are confident he will be just fine in a bit). Sending hugs and positive thoughts!

  • Thanks for your kind words and thoughts, Stephanie. Today marks one week post-op and he’s blowing us all away how fast he’s healing. It’s freaking incredible. Stitches come out next Monday and hydrotherapy starts two weeks later. It’s just so hard keeping him calm, he thinks he’s good to go! Lol

  • Charlotte, it’s freaking incredible how fast this little dog is healing. It’s been one week since surgery and he’s healing much, much quicker this time around, it’s insane. 🙂 Thank you for thinking of us. Love you Momma. xoxox

  • It’s been a week, Kevin, and he’s healing at such a quick rate it’s incredible. He’s healing much, much quicker this time around, which is crazy because I expected him being 10 now, healing would be a bit prolonged, but hell no. He’s doing great. 🙂 🙂 Thanks for your kind words and thoughts, as always, my friend.

  • awww, this makes me SO happy to hear 🙂 YAY CHARLIE!!!

  • So happy to hear he is doing so well! Such cute photos of the both of you! So glad the surgery went well! xxx

  • Thanks love. I’ve been meaning to reply back to you and will soon, hun. xoxo
