Oh, October 19

Fall & Seasons Changing

Oh October, where did you go?! You came and went just like that.  October has been a ridiculously busy month and in a blink, it has passed us by.  I have a ton of photos to catch up on, so might as well get started.  I’ve got dogs and plenty of landscape photos showcasing the beautiful change of seasons, as well as some cool photos from a place called Screaming Heads up in Burks Falls, Ontario. and even a few from Toronto.  I hope you enjoy and I hope you all had a great month of October, too. πŸ™‚

And then we went to visit Screaming Heads, located in the cute sleepy town of Burks Falls, Ontario, Canada.  The huge property, castle and sculptured gardens of an old farm belong to Canadian artist and sculptor, Peter Camani is most commonly known as Screaming Heads

People are free to take a walk around the property at their own risk and that is exactly what we did.  We’ve been there a handful of times over the last ten years and every time, it does not disappoint.  This time around, we ran into Peter and we were able to chat with him a bit.  One thing I had wanted to ask him was, where were his Emu that walked the property that I had previously seen years before?  What he told us, was something very tragic, though.  See, every year, the have a huge Harvest Festival and a couple of years ago, some of the festival goers were drinking cans of beer and they ripped off the tabs and threw them to the ground.  It turns out that Emus like shiny objects and so, they ate them and it cut up all their insides and they basically bled to death.  How freaking tragic is that!?!  They were gorgeous creatures that made the strangest noises and they had the biggest, most beautiful eyes with stunning long lashes that you’ve ever seen.

Fun fact: Screaming Heads was once featured on MTV’s Extreme Cribs and is home to the annual Harvest Festival, which is a smaller scale of (I would say) Burning Man.  If you’re ever in the area, do stop and check it out if you have an hour or two to walk around, and don’t forget your camera.

  • Your photos are so lovely, Linds <3 love to see what you are up to and the changing of seasons in various corners of the world.

What happened to the emu?!? I’m reading on my phone and may have missed thatβ€”I think text cut off (but again, may be because of the way I’m reading. Or I’m an idiot and coffee hasn’t quite kicked in yet).

    Xoxo

  • Divya Budhraja

Such gorgeous shots! I love the one on the bridge. <3

  • No, you’re not the idiot. I am! LOL. Mid sentence and I trail off.
    Thanks, I fixed that.
So what happened, it’s basically a hippie fest every fall, and there were some people drinking beer who dropped the tabs on top… Well emu apparently love shiny objects and so they found them and ate them. As you can imagine, it ripped up their insides and they bled to die. How freaking awful, right!?
Thank you my dear, it took forever to get this post out the door – I had been trying since last week!! Eeek!
Have a wonderful day babe! xoxox

  • Thanks love. <3 Such rich, earthy tones this time of year whereas spring is always nice, but I find it's such a drab time of year because everything has melted and looks so dull.
Have a great day love. πŸ™‚

  • What a neat place you visited! My husband and I were just talking about Burning Man recently, he kind of wants to do it (I’m like, um no…) but maybe this place would be a better one to visit! I can’t believe October is over already. It went so fast. Love all your pictures sweets. XOXO

  • Oh, my goodness! The poor things πŸ™ That’s so sad… but hopefully it’s a lesson to all I guess. Ooof… that’s a horrible way for a poor animal to pass though.

NO worries–I know it happens. Goodness, I published a post early morning today and would be surprised if it’s not riddled with typos. POOP HAPPENS!! XOXO and hope you’re having a great week, momma.

I agree, October just took off and it feels like it ended before it even really got started. how did 31 days just fly by in the blink of an eye?

  • Thank you for the wonderful trip to your neck of the woods!

  • Screaming Heads looks awesome.

  • screaming heads looks awesome but oh my gosh those poor emus. they are such odd creatures, but still. very sad. you’ve got some beautiful pictures here, but my favourite is the kitties πŸ™‚

  • Apparently the lottery system to get tickets for Burning Man is ridiculous. A friend of ours got tix and went a few years back. I’d LOVE to go someday, man what a wicked time that’d be. Christ you’d need a week off afterwards. LOL!

  • Didn’t it? I’m actually still writing out October, you know, full well knowing October is long gone and we’re now in November.
    Happy weekend doll! πŸ™‚

  • Thank you very much, Lauren. πŸ™‚

Yeah, I was super sad when we left after finding out what happened to them. πŸ™

  • Thank you so much hun. πŸ™‚ I try.
Yeah, super sad story about the Emus, eh? Perhaps a harsh lesson in not to litter because you just never know….

  • You are most welcome. Glad you enjoyed it. πŸ™‚

  • It’s a ton of fun to walk around anytime of the year. πŸ™‚

  • It’s such a fun place to spend a couple of hours meandering around. The Emu story is super sad, eh? I had looked forward to seeing them again, too.
I knew you’d love the kitties. They’re darling little ladies and loved to get brushed so, so much. Their dad came home and I miss them because I had been seeing them for three months every single day. πŸ™
