Pet Sitting Adventures – December Edition

Hello my friends and welcome. What an unusually light weekend last weekend was, with only fourteen visits in total the entire weekend.  I’m not sure why that was, but I’m pretty sure it’s the calm before the storm, aka the holidays.  So here is the deal for any new readers here. Pet sitting is my part-time, fun “job”. I work one weekend a month, every four weeks (and sometimes more often, if it is needed and I am available) and have been doing so for the last five years. It was a job that I just happen to stumble upon I guess at the right time and I feel so blessed to be able to do what I do. I get to spend time with animals and anyone that knows me well will tell you that my heart is with four-legged creatures; I am often saying that I prefer animals over people, but that’s just me. There’s just something so special that I cannot put into words about how I feel when I’m around animals. What can I say? I am animal mad in every sense of the word. I physically cannot walk past a dog in the street without loving on it and I’ve been known to on many occasions to stop the car and get out to ask to pet your dog. Yes, I am THAT person. And, FUNNILY, despite being allergic to cats, I still cannot resist a sweet, fluffy purring love. It’s crazy, but it’s true and I love every second of it.  If you want to check out another pet post, check out another fun post, check out things I’ve learned over the last five years of pet sitting.

So let’s get to it, shall we?  Weekend Stats:

  • Number of booked visits: 14 visits in total, one on Friday night, 8 on Saturday and 5 on Sunday.
  • Animals: Dogs and Cats, nothing out of the ordinary or exotic.
  • Distance driven in weekend (Friday night at 6 pm to Sunday night at 10 pm): 152 kilometers.
  • Weather:  Windy, snowy, you know, typical December weather for Ontario.

Friday, Saturday & Sunday

Maggie & Gus Maggie & Gus
Maggie & Gus.  I wasn’t going to have any visits on Friday but heard these two needed a bedtime visit, so I jumped on the opportunity.  I’ve been looking after these two for over five years now and Maggie is old and in pain.  She is by far one of the happiest Labs I’ve ever met and I love her to pieces.  Her family will be making the tough decision soon and I took this as possibly the last time I’ll see her.  I was so happy when I saw her but cried when I got home.  One of the downsides to pet sitting – we, too, get attached to the pets we look after and they always leave a mark on our hearts.
Whippets Whippets
Meanwhile, back at my mom’s, Charlie was getting comfortable on his Nana’s lap while the two sweetheart whippets canoodled with each other and snoozed.  Are they not the sweetest pair?

Meet Jinx and Rex.  Jinx, the grey coloured Sphynx and Rex, the pinky one.  Jinx was definitely the friendlier of the two but Rex was definitely curious.  His brother was my little playmate though, and I was loving it! Sphynx are my favorite breed of cats.  *swoon* Hairless Sphynx cat Hairless Sphynx cat
I just LOVE all the wrinkles and folds.  And they’re so warm and SO SOFT!  <3

And last but not least, Abby girl.  Such a sweetie pie.  🙂

This weekend was pretty smooth sailing but as I said, I think it’s the calm before the storm – before all the parties and festive and family events begin, but maybe not, maybe people are staying home more this year.  Overall, it was a good and relatively easygoing weekend and for that, I am grateful.

Well that’s it for now. I hope you enjoy the pet pictures as much as I do. Thanks for stopping by! 🙂

  • Oh my gosh, hairless cats! Perfect for you to snuggle with your allergies right? They’re so ugly they are cute. And oh sweet Maggie. I’m glad you had a chance to see her before her family makes that tough decision. Poor thing. I want to go for a walk with Patch, he looks like the sweetest!! Love these pictures as always!

Ooof… Maggie :*( one of the downsides of this…and she looks like such a darling, too. Oh, my goodness—Patch!! What a snuggle bunny. Reminds me of Buster somehow <3

  • Great photos and video!
Gosh, I am so sorry to hear about Maggie. Made me so sad to read about. She looks like an angel.
I used to be obsessed with those hairless cats! They look so odd and mean lol.

  • Oh, you KNOW I love the pet pictures as much as you do, Lindsay! 🙂

That’s so sad about Maggie and her family. It’s such a tough, but ultimately loving decision.

I loved all the pics, but especially the ones of Baxter and Charlie, the whippets and your mom!

Here’s hoping the weekend was just the calm before the more calm. Wouldn’t that be awesome?

    Hugs to you, my friend!

  • That is so sad about Maggie – I can imagine how attached you get to these beautiful pets and how hard it can be at times.
It is a wonderful thing that you do and one can feel the love you have for them just reading these posts.
Those whippets are adorable and I just love their outfits.

  • Hairless cats are awesome! And they’re little furnaces, so snuggly and sweet. They look angry though. Lol They are absolutely perfect for the allergies, that’s why I want one someday. 🙂 Jeff doesn’t like them but you have to meet one first and they’ll change your mind. The wrinkles and belt get me every time though. Lol!
Miss Maggie… man I don’t have enough words about this week girl. I’m glad I saw her. And Patch was a dream to walk. Such a happy camper. 🙂

  • Thanks girl. 😉 I get to meet some of the most awesome pets out there, I’m so blessed. #bestjobever 🙂

What a great group of friends you hang out with on a regular bases. Happy holidays Gorgeous XOXO

  • <3 it’s quite obvious my love for pets, isn’t it?

Maggie is such a sweet, sweet girl. Always wants to play and have to tell her SLOW and calm, Maggie. And always loves her belly rubbed. She’s definitely a ham. Patch was such a good boy, and so sweet. I’m not impressed with his momma tho. She sent him to training camp for a month and he came back with a prong collar. That he wears 24/7. And ya gotten tangled in his hair before. Like wtf?! One of the most docile, non-pulling dogs and he wears that. We won’t walk dogs with those, they’re inhumane so we always switch out his collar on our visits. Makes me sad because I don’t understand why. I can see how he reminds you of your boy, though, it’s something about their faces. 🙂

  • Thanks hun. 🙂 That part is the shittiest thing about the job. We grow attached too, and when they’re no longer in the homes we visit or we stop visiting altogether, it’s just sad. But I try to remind myself that I’m blessed with the time I do have with them, and that helps. That and knowing how fortunately I am and how much more enriched my life is, it almost brings me to tears. Thanks to your kind words hun. <3

Hairless cats are the bomb, aren’t they?! Lol I mean, the belly and tall those folds and wrinkles, I die! Lol! Someday I’ll have one. 🙂

  • Hey Kevin 🙂

It’s such hard decision that no one ever likes to make, but it’s the greatest gift you can give them. And really, our pets are always with us, but it doesn’t make it any easier, does it? It’s just so hard for us humans to let go….

Oh my gosh the whippets were the cutest girls ever. Bree was Mia’s shadow and they would spoon each other. Mia, the black one, is a silly silly girl and loved to throw herself on the couch. Oh and they’re goats, too.
It was nice to look after them even if it was just 12 hours. 🙂

I hear Christmas Day there are 60 visits(!!!!!), so I think my weekend really was the calm before the storm. Lol!

Merry Christmas Kevin, say the same to Tracy. Hugs!! Xo

  • They’re they best kinds of friends, then four legged kind. 😉
    Merry Christmas my love!! xoxox

  • Isn’t it? It’s tough and it’s sad when we lose them, but I wouldn’t change a damned thing. It’s one of the best decisions I’ve ever made, getting this “job”, because it’s really not a job when you love something this much. There are definitely a few that have a special place in my heart where I’ll never forget them. <3

All of it is worth it and I wouldnt change a thing. Thanks hun. <3

  • ugh, I hate those prong collars, too, and don’t understand why some people use them for dogs that barely need them! they are not comfortable for the animal at all. le sigh. That Patch is quite handsome… and Maggie… She just looks like a doll. I love love love my seniors <3 XOXO

  • I don’t agree with them at all, but at most, they are a training tool not something meant to be used daily or on their necks 24/7. They’re just so dangerous.

Me too. I have such a soft spot for the older ones. They’re so special. <3
